Course Records Broken at the 14th Tartu City Marathon

04.10.2025

New course records were set today at the 14th Tartu City Marathon. The 42.2 km marathon distance was won by Kenyan Juluis Muriuki Wahome, who set a new course record with a time of 2:18:36. “Although the weather was a bit cold for me, I managed to achieve my goal and run a new course record here,” said Wahome. “I’ve trained in Tartu a lot together with Tiidrek Nurme, so I was quite familiar with the course,” added the marathon winner.

A course record was also set in the women’s category, where Liis-Grete Hussar was the fastest with a time of 2:41:08. “Incredible – this is definitely one of the sweetest victories of my season,” commented Hussar, who celebrated her 22nd win of the year. “I hoped to run 2:46 but finished five minutes faster, so I’m really happy,” she added.

The half marathon was won by Deniss Šalkauskas, who ran a personal best of 1:05:45. “We ran the first 5 kilometres together with Karel Hussar at a 3:10 pace, and after that, I kept up a 3:05 pace,” explained Šalkauskas. “I’m very satisfied with the result,” he added. The women’s half marathon was won by Kelly Nevolihhin with a time of 1:20:58.

On the 10 km distance, local favourite Tiidrek Nurme triumphed for the second year in a row, finishing in 30:36. “It was quite a challenge because in the morning I helped my training partner Wahome by giving him drinks along the marathon course, which meant I cycled 40 kilometres before my own start,” said Nurme. “It did bother me a little not to run the marathon here in Tartu myself, but my goal is to keep the Estonian flag flying high at the Bucharest Marathon next week,” he added. The women’s 10 km race was won by Pille Hinn with a time of 36:21.

This year’s Tartu City Marathon set a participation record with more than 9,000 runners taking part. The virtual races remain open until October 12.
