Estonians have good chances to win the Tartu Maraton again
Estonians are the main favorites of the 63-kilometer main distance of the Tartu Maraton on Sunday. At the start: Henri Roos and Kalev Ermits who finished among the fastest Estonians last year. Among the women, multiple Olympic champion Justyna Kowalczyk-Tekieli (POL) and three-time Tartu Maraton winner Tatjana Mannima are coming.
Last year, Tartu Maraton was part of the Visma Ski Classics Pro Tour series, and the first Estonian, Henri Roos, finished in 48th place.
This year's Tartu Marathon is not part of the long-distance skiing professional series for economic reasons, which means that foreign competitors will participate in the Ski Classics Pro Tour series in Sweden during the weekend.
The main contenders for first place this year are: Henri Roos, who finished the 48th Tartu Marathon as the best Estonian, and former biathlon skier Kalev Ermits. Among the women, the multiple Olympic champion Justyna Kowalczyk-Tekieli (POL) will be on the starting line, and her tough competitor will be the three-time winner of the Tartu Maraton, Tatjana Mannima.
"This year, it is very likely to see Estonians on the highest steps of the podium. That's why the spectators definitely have a reason to come to the track to support their loved ones," states Indrek Kelk, race director of the Tartu Maraton.
As of the morning of Friday, 3452 people have registered for the 49th Tartu Marathon. The 63 km distance of the ski marathon starts on Sunday from Otepää at 9:00 am. Shorter distance, 31 km, starts from Arula at 12:30 p.m. More information about the Tartu Maraton HERE.
