Karel Hussar and Liis-Grete Arro Win Tartu Maastikumaraton
The 21 km main distance of the 43rd Tartu Maastikumaraton, held today, brought victory to one family as Karel Hussar claimed the men’s title with a course record of 1:07:25, and Liis-Grete Arro took the women’s win with a time of 1:21:59.
“This event gives personalized bib numbers to the winners, and I’ve wanted one for a while. Now I finally earned it,” said Hussar, who won the Tartu Maastikumaraton for the first time. “I was sick at the beginning of the week and felt a bit unsure before the race. Luckily, I felt good the past few days, and everything went well,” added Hussar, who took the lead early in the run.
Hussar was followed by Olavi Allase in second place (+00:00:52) and Bert Tippi in third (+00:04:20).
“I tried to run as smoothly as possible today since my racing schedule has been very packed. I really enjoy the course here – running through the woods is lovely, and there were also supporters along the way,” commented women’s winner Liis-Grete Arro.
In the women’s competition, Minna Kelk finished second (+00:02:54), followed by Kertu Kula in third place (+00:04:03).
Tartu Maastikumaraton festivities continue tomorrow in Tähtvere Sports Park with children’s races and the Charity Run.
