Mukunga won the Tartu Forest Marathon for the sixth time in a row

40th Tartu Forest Marathon, the biggest cross-country run in the Baltics, was held today in South-Estonia. In the main distance (24 km) Kenyan Ibrahim Mukunga Wachira triumphed for the sixth time in a row.

768 runners and walkers registered for the 24 km distance on the route between Otepää and Elva. Quite in the last minute Ibrahim Mukunga Wachira registered for the event and like the last time in 2019, he finished ahead of the others with a time of 1:22.01. Rauno Laumets (EST) finished second (+00.48) and Bert Tippi (EST) third (+02.47).

 

Mukunga said that the course was already familiar to him. "This is my favourite course, I know it well. I thought that if someone starts to get closer, I am ready to fight until the finish line," told Mukunga.

 

Laumets, who finished as the best Estonian, said that he did his best today. "I saw that Mukunga was getting closer, but I still couldn't go past him. However, this course suits me well and I did my best," he stated.

 

Kaisa Kukk won the women's competition in the 24 km distance with time of 1:34.11. Kadiliis Kuiv was the second (+03.19). Maris Terno got the third place (+07.26).

 

The longest distance of 42 km was covered by 148 runners today. The fastest man in the 42 km run was Ülari Kais (2:41.47). Revo Lumpre finished second (+04.33) and Sander Linnus was third (+06.08). Lilian Jõesaar was the first woman to finish 42 km with time of 03:19.46, second was Klarika Kuusk (+07.19) and third Laidy Proosväli (+12.00)

 

A total of 1844 runners and walkers registered for the main distances of the Tartu Forest Marathon (42, 24, 10 and 5 km).

 

The next competition of the Tartu Marathon Klassik series is the 41st Tartu Rattaralli, which will take place on May 29.
