Hiking groups

On 42 and 21 km distance, you are welcome to join the hiking groups under the support and guidance of an experienced group leader.

  • The group leader is a pace maker who inspires, gives advice on how to use energy reserves, and encourages when it gets tough. The pace makers for the 42 km hike are Mart Einasto and Marika Roopärg, for the 21 km Tartu Maraton Race Director Indrek Kelk.

  • The 42 km hiking group completes the distance in about 7 hours, and the 21 km group in about 3-3.5 hours. When joining the group, please be prepared to maintain the planned pace. If you feel that the pace is too fast or too slow, discuss with the group leader how to go on.

  • Separate registration for the hiking group is not necessary; simply sign up for the 42 km or 21 km distance.

  • The starting corridor is at the very end on both distances, clearly marked with corresponding flags. The group leader wears a distinguishing vest, and participants in the group receive a wristband.

  • Hiking group members are like any other participants in Tartu Maastikumaraton - they receive all the services provided, including time keeping, medal, catering in the finish etc.
