Tartu Maraton: situation update

05.02.2026

Cold temperatures continue, and as of 3 February the full length of the marathon course is skiable with both classic and skating tracks. Based on current weather forecasts, there is no doubt about Tartu Maraton taking place – the ski festival will be held as planned on 14–15 February.

Although conditions are beautiful and wintry, a little more snow is still needed for the marathon weekend. Snow coverage is best from Otepää to Palu, where course conditions have improved noticeably over the past week, with less snow towards Elva.

In order to preserve the existing snow cover, it is currently not possible to carry out regular course grooming. Instead, we are looking for more sustainable methods to form the necessary track also in the sections with thinner snow layer.

However, all skiers are most welcome to train and ski on the marathon course. This helps to slowly pack the light, new snow and improves course conditions also in sections where machine grooming is not currently possible.

The weather forecast indicates continuing minus temperatures, with new snowfall expected towards the end of this week and again in the middle of next week. We continue to closely monitor the forecasts and will adjust course maintenance accordingly.
