According to Indrek Kelk, the race director of Tartu Maraton, the Tartu Maraton pre-events took place over the weekend with excellent track conditions. "The ski track was still very good on the weekend, but warmer weather on Monday made me concerned. Since the snow cover was the thinnest on the Palu-Elva section, I went to check it last night. Early this morning, the course master was also present and we received confirmation that maraton can be organized on the original track," Kelk explains the decision.

He adds that although the Palu-Elva section is not as good as the rest of the course, more snow is expected on Friday and Saturday. "We are optimistic and all signs show that snow is coming on Friday and Saturday. In the case of a black scenario, i.e. in the event that there is no snow coming, we are also ready to cover these few hundred meters of snow-poor sections on our own," he states.

Assar Kütt, the course master of Tartu Maraton, is also positive: "If elsewhere the snow has melted away, the situation in here is still good. Especially on the route between Otepää and Palu. Since the end of the week promises snow, the Palu-Elva section will also be better covered," he says.

Due to this year's unpredictable winter and weather conditions, the organizing team of Tartu Maraton has decided to extend the early bird price until Wednesday, February 15 (included).

The 49th Tartu Maraton will be held on February 19. The day before, there are kids races in Tähtvere sports park. More information and registration HERE.
