Tartu Rattamaraton and Tartu Maastikumaraton will now be held on Saturdays
The main events of Tartu Rattamaraton and Tartu Maastikumaraton, which have traditionally taken place on Sundays, will be held on Saturdays starting next year.
"In recent years, participant surveys have shown a preference for holding the main events on Saturdays. People want to recover and socialize with friends in a relaxed manner after the event, without worrying about Monday's workday," explains race director Indrek Kelk.
"With Tartu Maastikumaraton, there was also a conflict with Mother's Day. Many people used the Mother’s Day race as an opportunity to spend time with their mothers, but for those coming from further away, Mother's Day has been more of an obstacle. Now we can dedicate Sunday to children's events in Tartu, which aligns even better with the spirit of Mother's Day," comments Kelk.
Date change is also planned for Tartu Rattaralli. The big road cycling festival, previously held on the last Sunday of May, will now take place a week later. Tour of Estonia, held right before on Friday and Saturday, will also shift a week later. "The change in Tartu Rattaralli date is related to Tartu Maastikumaraton. A two-week interval has been inconvenient for both participants and organizers," explains Kelk. "Additionally, in terms of the international cycling calendars, it’s better for both - Tartu Rattaralli and Tour of Estonia - to be held a week later," says Kelk.
