Tartu Rattaralli introduces new routes for 2026

Instead of the traditional southern direction, this year’s Tartu Rattaralli courses will head north-east from the city, to Vooremaa and the Lake Peipus area.

While the routes are new compared to last year, many riders are familiar with the region from the 2022 and 2023 editions of Tartu Rattaralli.

Over the years the race has taken riders in different directions from the city of Tartu. “This year, there are two reasons behind the course change,” sais race director Indrek Kelk. “First, the Tõrvandi–Roiu road, which was a key section of bringing riders back into the city, is currently under reconstruction. By choosing a route that avoids the main large roads, we can minimise disruption to regular traffic when re-entering Tartu."

"Second, another major event — the Estonian Aviation Days — will take place south of Tartu on the same weekend. As this popular event also attracts thousands of visitors and brings unusually high flow of cars, it would inevitably create higher traffic risks, especially for cyclists. Since the location of the Aviation Days cannot be changed, we decided to move this year’s Tartu Rattaralli routes to the northern bank of the Emajõgi River in order to prevent problems before they arise,” Kelk explained.

The 45th Tartu Rattaralli will be held on Sunday, 7 June. The official race distances, measured from the technical start, are 135 km, 61 km and 27 km. The event will begin in central Tartu with a ceremonial start and a neutralised section of 2.7 km for the 135 km and 61 km distances, and 3.3 km for the 27 km distance.

Tartu Rattaralli is the Baltic´s largest cycling festival, attracting thousands of riders from Estonia and abroad every year. Now in its fifth season as part of the UCI Gran Fondo World Series, it is known among riders as a flat and fast gran fondo. From this year on, Tartu Rattaralli also offers the chance to qualify not only for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, but also for the Granfondo European Championships.
