Thousands of cyclists ready to start – what to expect from the 28th Tartu Rattamaraton?

18.09.2025

The Baltics’ largest mountain bike and gravel race will bring thousands of riders to South Estonia this Saturday. The 28th edition of the Tartu Rattamaraton comes with several exciting updates.

First time on Saturday
For the first time in history, the event will be held on a Saturday instead of the traditional Sunday. According to race director Indrek Kelk, the change was made to give participants more time to recover and share their experiences with friends without the concern of the upcoming work week.

New longest distance decides the winner
This year, the overall winner of the Tartu Rattamaraton will be determined on the new 126 km course. Last year’s runner-up, Lithuanian rider Eimantas Gudiškis, is rumored to be in strong form and aiming for revenge against reigning champion Gert Kivistik. In addition, the top three men and women will be awarded on the 86 km course, while the 40 km and 21 km races will feature competitions for youth.

Sauna village at the finish
At the Elva finish area, participants can enjoy a brand-new sauna experience. A large tent sauna for up to 80 people, several Awero trailer saunas, as well as hot and cold tubs will be available. Many will recognize the tent sauna from the finish of the Võhandu Marathon. Also adding to the atmosphere is the A. Le Coq mobile bar, offering refreshing drinks.

Favorable weather forecast
Weather conditions are expected to be ideal, with warm and dry weather predicted for race day. In Southern Estonia, temperatures are forecast between 15–18°C and the chance of rain is low. Although the summer has been wetter than average, creating some damper sections, the recent dry weeks have left the course in good condition, explained race director Kelk.

Registration for the Tartu Rattamaraton remains open online until Friday at 17:00 and also on-site on the morning of the event.
