The new 126 km distance of the 28th Tartu Rattamaraton, held today, was won by Lithuanian rider Eimantas Gudiškis, who broke away four kilometers before the finish. Josten Vaidem finished second (+00:15) and Taavi Kannimäe third (+02:11).

“Last year I was second, but this time I was in really good shape. Although the course conditions were tough and I had to take many risks, everything worked out,” said Gudiškis at the finish.

“When Eimantas pushed on the climb, I simply didn’t have the legs to follow. I’m very happy with second place, as I wasn’t even aiming for the podium. The conditions were perfect for me and I took advantage of that,” explained Vaidem.

In the women’s race, victory went to Finnish rider Karoliina Leinonen, who has now triumphed for the seventh time in Estonia this season, finishing with a time of 04:13:34. Janelle Uibokand came second (+15:01) and Mari Kruuser third (+19:10).

“I came here to win, but during the race I wasn’t even aware that I was in the lead. It was a tough ride, but I enjoyed it,” commented Leinonen.

“Gravel is fun, but the former main distance is still closer to my heart. Overall, though, it’s a good result,” said Uibokand.

The 86 km distance was won in the men’s category by Riko Tammepuu with a time of 02:43:37. He was followed by Vahur Valvas (+04:49) and Latvian Sandijs Klavins (+04:49). The women’s race was won by Carol Kuuskman in 03:15:37. Second place went to Latvian Katrina Jaunslaviete Kipure (+00:11), with fellow Latvian Lelde Ardava third (+02:21).

Tartu Rattamaraton kids races will take place tomorrow at Tähtvere Sports Park. Participants can join the virtual races until September 28.
