48. Tartu Maraton received a special permit from the government and is taking place as planned
Today, Estonian government decided to give Tartu Maraton a special permit, and on February 20th, a total of 6000 people will be allowed to participate in the two distances. The organizers of the event have prepared a safety plan in cooperation with the Health Board, which will minimize the risks of participating in the event.
The safety plan
With a special permit from the government, up to 4000 participants are allowed for a distance of 63 km and up to 2000 skiers for a distance of 31 km. In addition to specific safety measures, people still have to act according to current COVID rules, that means having COVID-19 certificate and wearing mask. The organizers ensure the dispersal of the crowd both on the track and at the start and finish points. Starts will take place with 10-minute intervals on both distances and all participants must wear masks in the competition area.
According to the chief organizer of Tartu Maraton, Indrek Kelk, the organizing team has been very much looking forward to these news. "Winter came very early this year, people have been able to ski a lot and the organizing team has worked hard every day so that the marathon can take place as planned. We are extremely pleased with these news," he said.
He added that it’s now very important to focus on safety and that anyone wishing to take part in the marathon must follow the rules carefully.
Organizers will keep participates updated about the changes as soon as possible.
