Fluorinated waxes are now banned at marathons

At the beginning of the year, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) announced a ban on fluorinated ski waxes, effective from the 2023/2024 winter season. This ban applies to all FIS races, including Worldloppet events, impacting both elite athletes and recreational skiers.

    Antti-Jussi Juntunen won the Hawaii Express 26. Tartu MTB Marathon with a powerful finish sprint. His time was 2 hours 27 minutes and 15 seconds. Estonian Gert Kivistik finished second (+00.01) and Latvian Martins Blums third (+00.01).

    89 km track will be shortened near Pringi: ~2 km detour will be left out, and the course will run straight on the Pringi-Restu road. Updated track is marked on the sceheme below with yellow and the cut-out segment with red. The new distance will be 86 km.

    The victory of the Hawaii Express 42. Tartu Rattaralli 128 km distance was taken by Estonian cyclist Norman Vahtra, who made a powerful attack just one kilometer before the finish line. The second place went to the Estonian Karl Kurits, who had a better leg in the final sprint competing against Hugo Forssell from Sweden.

    Compared to last year, there were almost 3500 people more, who were skiing, cycling and running at Tartu Marathon events. Although the number of participants decreased during the coronavirus pandemic years, it can be seen that both children and adults have begun to participate in sports events more and more.

    At the 11th Tartu City Marathon today, Roman Fosti (2.26.17) triumphed in the marathon distance, breaking the course record that had been standing since 2016. Fastest woman in the marathon was Kadiliis Kuiv (2.47.16), who improved her course record from last year by more than three minutes.
