Tartu Rattaralli Travels Back in Time for 40 Years

18.04.2024

Tartu Rattalli, one of the biggest road cycling festivals in Northern Europe, dates back to 1982. This year the beloved bike race travels back in time by launching the Vintage ride as part of the program.

1. Tartu Rattaralli start in 1982 from Tartu Town Hall Square

The aim is to elebrate the history and story of cycling by highlighting vintage bicycles, cycling gear and all the other accessories. "In Southern Europe, coffee rides for retro bikes are very popular, and in Estonia, too, there are more and more enthusiasts who have bought or restored steel frame racing bicycles. We are very pleased that the organizers of the Tartu Rattaralli are willing to collaborate because it is the most prestigious and largest cycling event in Estonia and the neighboring countries, and the Vintage ride fits perfectly into its program," says Vegerd Veskimägi, one of the authors of the idea.

Tartu Rattaralli Vintage takes place on May 26th on the 56 km race distance. Participants are expected to ride bicycles with a steel frame built before 1987.

In addition, a Vintage Cruise will take place in the center of town Tartu the day before, covering a distance of 8 km. This gives vintage bike enthusiasts the opportunity to present their cycling equipment to the public and enjoy riding together on the closed-traffic city loop. The event expo will also host an exhibition of retro bikes and cycling gear.
